Chicken City
A film by Pam Percy
Welcome to Chicken City!
Travel through Chicken City and discover just how steeped in our culture the humble chicken really is. We’ll visit the Poulet Musee, the Leghorn Library, and the Artful Chicken Museum. Swing by the Cock and Bull Cafe for some chicken music, and catch a flick at the Fowl Film Festival.
This fast-paced, fact-and fun-filled film may not answer the question “Which came first the chicken or the egg,” nor will it tell you how to raise chickens, but it will definitely amaze and amuse the viewer as to how the history of the chicken reflects the history of the world. You, too, could become Chicken Enlightened!
With animation, archival footage and images, the film will delight and captivate viewers by showcasing:
The history of the chicken from its domestication in 3200 BC and its importance in various religions and cultures
The artful chicken — painters, sculptors, authors, musicians, and filmmakers inspired by chickens
Chickens in Pop culture, cuisine, famous chickens, chicken vacation spots, and other fun facts including a chicken dictionary and how to cock-a-doodle-doo in 21 languages
After producing her first film, the award winning documentary, Finding Loren (2020), Pam Percy is returning to her chicken roots to produce Chicken City.
Pam has been raising chickens as a hobby since 1986 on her five-acre property in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After collecting chicken art and artifacts she realized that literature on chicken in art and culture was limited. For years she visited libraries and museums in Milwaukee, New York, Washington DC and London in search of "Chicken Enlightenment." The result was her first book, The Complete Chicken, An Entertaining History of Chickens, Voyageur Press (2002). She has also published A Field Guide to Chickens, Voyageur Press.
